Garden of Grace
words and music by Greg Scheer
inspired by Romans 5:12-21

Another song from my Romans series, this time inspired by Romans 5:12-21. I've always loved this song, but it never felt quite right until a few months ago when I completely overhauled the lyrics and wrote a piano arrangement to support the melody. Now it's perfect.

1. There in the garden, long ago,
God gave us life and perfect love.
Because of Adam’s fall,
death overtook us all
and banished us from what we’d known
there in the garden, long ago.

2. Restore the garden in our souls
with Jesus blood, the life that flows.
From His redeeming tree,
there runs a precious stream
that cleanses us and makes us whole.
Restore the garden in our souls.

3. Lord, grow the garden of our souls
with righteousness and life and love.
And under grace's light
please let the fruit turn ripe
within the garden of our souls.
Lord, grow the garden of our souls.

4. We praise the Gardener of our souls,
this second Adam, our first love.
Because His grace abounds
a tree of life is found
within the garden of our souls.
We praise the Gardener of our souls.
